"Hey, you haven't had a message today," Chloe commented.
Clark felt his shoulders slump automatically in misery and he sighed. He hadn't realised that admitting his feelings to Lex would mean an end to the text messages he'd been getting for over a month; and he definitely hadn't realised how much he'd miss them. "No," he said quietly.
"Oh well," she shrugged, "Probably for the best, it was a little creepy."
"It was not creepy," Clark said sharply.
Her eyes widened. "You didn't actually like getting them, did you?" she gasped. "Come on, Clark, a stalker in Smallville? That's so not a good thing!"
"He's not a stalker!" Clark snapped, then slapped a hand over his mouth as Chloe span him round, eyes even wider.
"He?" she screeched, "How do you know it's a he?" she asked more quietly, gripping his arm hard.
"I... I d-don't know," Clark stammered. Before she could object, his cell phone beeped loudly and he jumped. Shaking out of Chloe's grasp, Clark grabbed his phone hurriedly, suddenly desperate for a message from Lex, which he knew would make him feel better.
'Thank you for last night. Will I see you today, my angel?'
Clark grinned happily, his heart pounding at the thought of seeing Lex later.
"Thank you for last night?" Chloe asked, her voice cold and hard.
Oh man. Clark sighed. "I..." how much to tell her? "I found out who it was last night."
Chloe's eyes narrowed, "You found out... and it's a he and he wants to see you again today? Are you sure that's a good idea?"
"What do you mean?" Clark asked in confusion.
"A male stalker who obviously has obsessive type feelings for you and you don't think it's a bad idea to be encouraging him?" she asked, sounding shocked and possibly angry.
"No," Clark said firmly. He sent a quick reply to Lex confirming that he'd be over later, refusing to look at Chloe.
"But, but..." Chloe made a small sound of frustration and threw up her hands in despair. "Fine, be killed by your own stupidity, see if I care."
"Who's getting killed?" Pete asked, appearing behind them.
"Pete!" Chloe grabbed him, "Help me convince Clark he shouldn't be meeting his stalker."
"You know who it is?" Pete asked him archly. Clark nodded, "Well, I guess it depends how hot she is, angel."
"Pete!" Chloe slapped him, "Anyway, it's a guy."
"A guy?" Pete started laughing, "A guy?! Dude, you have no luck."
Clark couldn't help a smile. Finding out Lex was his secret admirer, that his feelings were returned, made him the luckiest guy alive. As far as he was concerned anyway.
"Clark?" Chloe was staring at him suspiciously. Clark flushed and looked away and she gasped. "Oh my God, you actually like this guy."
"What?" Pete snorted disbelievingly, "Come on, Chloe, Clark is not..." he trailed off as she raised an eyebrow. They exchanged a meaningful glance that made Clark feel uneasy.
"What?" he asked charily.
"Nothing, never mind," Chloe shrugged, "See you later, Clark."
"Um, okay." Clark watched his friends walk away, whispering and nudging. Checking his watch quickly, Clark pulled out his cell phone again and speed dialled.
"Hello, angel."
Clark sighed, just Lex's voice was enough to soothe him. "Are you busy?"
"No, why?"
"I, uh, do you mind if I come over now?" Clark said quietly.
"What's wrong, Clark?" Lex sounded very concerned.
Clark felt his face waver a little, "What makes you think something's wrong?"
"Apart from the brittle tone of your voice?" Lex said quietly, "The fact that you're thinking about skipping school."
"I just need to see you, Lex, please?" Clark begged.
"Like I'm going to say no to you," Lex said softly.
"Thank you," Clark said quickly, deciding not to mention that Lex frequently said no to him, the last time having been the previous night when Lex had refused to kiss him. "I'll see you in five." He hung up before Lex could question him on that. Checking round briefly, Clark took off for the castle.

When Clark walked into his friend's office, Lex was sitting, hands clasped in front of him on the desk, just waiting. Clark swallowed. "Um, hi."
"I knew you were fast," Lex commented quietly, "I didn't realise how fast."
Clark's heart pounded suddenly in his chest. "Can we not do this right now?" he begged.
"Well, that depends," Lex said, his voice still low and calm, "On whether you do love me and whether you want a relationship between us to develop."
"Please," Clark whispered. He was too weirded out by Chloe and Pete and now frightened of Lex's reaction, to deal with the alien talk right then. "Please not now, please, Lex, not now." He felt his eyes sting and squeezed them shut quickly, wrapping his arms round his chest. Another pair of arms slipped round him and Lex's lips feathered gently over his cheek.
"I'm sorry, my angel," Lex whispered, "Why don't you tell me what's wrong?"
Clark sucked in a deep breath, rubbing his cheek against Lex's head. "Chloe and Pete... I don't know, they freaked me out today," Clark sighed, realising it sounded totally pathetic. "They were going on and on about how it was dnagerous for me to meet my stalker, then suddenly, they just looked at each other and went off whispering." He sighed, clutching Lex closer. "Sorry, sorry, it's stupid..."
"It's not stupid," Lex interrupted him. "C'mere." Cupping his cheek to urge him round, Lex stared at him earnestly, "If it freaked you out, it's not stupid."
Clark gazed into sincere blue and gasped quietly at the sheer depth of emotion he could see there. "I'm an alien and I have superpowers and I'm sorry I never told you, please don't hate me, I love you so much," he babbled breathlessly. Nothing mattered, all of a sudden, except that he not betray Lex, by lying to him, any more.
Lex seemed to freeze, hand hovering near his face. "What?" Lex breathed.
Pulling away from his friend, Clark took another breath, almost choking when his chest constricted. "I didn't know," Clark whispered, "I didn't know, and then I did and I was so scared and I wanted to tell you but I was so scared, I mean, you might... and I... and then I'd left it so long I couldn't tell you and..."
"Breathe," Lex interrupted him, then raised an eyebrow, "Assuming you need to?"
Clark blinked. "I... yes, but I can hold it for hours," he replied.
"Hours?" Lex mused. He turned to the desk and got a notebook. "What's the longest you've ever held your breath?"
Clark frowned in confusion, "Um, over five hours."
Lex jotted that down. "Can you be more exact?"
"I..." Clark blinked, still completely confused, "Uh, five hours, twenty three minutes and thirty nine seconds. Why?"
"And what's your top speed?" Lex continued, ignoring his question, looking at him in total detachment.
Clark stumbled back to the couch. He didn't understand why Lex was being like this. A tendril of fear shivered its way down his spine. "I don't know, I don't come with a speedometer," he replied quietly.
"Hmm, there's a thought for the future," Lex frowned in contemplation, "Well, for now, how long does it take you to get to Metropolis?"
Pain was starting to grip Clark's chest. Lex seemed so cold... not his friend, but more like he was when he was dealing with Lionel. "Two minutes," he whispered, "And three seconds."
Lex jotted down more notes. "Good, good," he muttered, "What's the heaviest thing you've lifted?"
"What?" Clark gasped.
"Well, you're obviously stronger than us," Lex said with a 'what's-the-problem' sort of frown.
"Us?" Clark choked out as his throat tightened with despair and tears
"You know, humans," Lex explained, snorting as if it was obvious.
And that was all it took. Clark's chest constricted, his heart pounding painfully and his eyes burned as tears streamed down his face. "Why are you doing this?" he sobbed, collapsing against the arm of the couch, burying his face in a cushion. He'd never imagined, in all the times he'd thought about telling Lex, that his friend, the man he loved and thought loved him, would treat him like a lab specimen.
"Doing what?" Lex asked snidely.
"You... you're treating me like, like..." Clark struggled over his words.
"An alien?" Lex sounded quietly amused.
Clark couldn't bring himself to look up and he nodded against the cushion.
"Isn't that what you expected of me?" Lex snapped.
What? Clark lurched to his feet, "No! Never in a million years." Lex had turned away and Clark wished he could see the older man's face.
"Then why were you scared?"
Suddenly, Clark could hear the pain in Lex's voice, see the tension in every muscle. "I thought you'd hate me for lying," Clark whispered, "Maybe even be scared of me because I'm such a freak."
"You're not a freak!" Lex shouted, spinning round to glare at him.
"I was scared of losing you," Clark breathed hopefully.
Lex looked down, "I'm really angry with you, and I'm not sure whether I'll be trusting you for a while, but I..." Lex sighed and looked up again, "I love you and you won't lose me."
"Really?" Clark asked hesitantly.
"Really," Lex replied with a short nod. "Clark, I need you to go now."
Clark felt his face fall and he sighed, chest clenching painfully again. "Okay. I'm sorry, Lex."
"I know," Lex said quietly. He turned away again and Clark swallowed hard. He couldn't bear leaving like this. On impulse, he hurried over to Lex, brushing a gentle kiss over his cheek.
"I love you," he whispered, before running out of the room and home.

Chloe and Pete approached him cautiously, obviously aware of his terrible mood. Which made Clark feel even worse.
"Are you okay?" Chloe asked him worriedly.
Clark shrugged despondantly. He didn't have the energy or motivation to try and reassure them that everything was fine. Everything wasn't fine, and wouldn't be again until Lex forgave him.
"What happened?" she asked, "I thought... uh, we thought..."
"Thought what?" clark sighed, "That you'd be teasing me today?"
"No, I, well," Chloe looked guilty, "Well, yes, but..."
"Leave me alone," Clark said quietly, walking away. He couldn't deal with company right now, even his two best friends'.
"What the hell did Luthor do to you?" Pete snapped.
In fury at the unjust accusation, Clark rounded on his friend. "He didn't do anything to me. You know what, Pete? I've had enough of you treating him like crap. You'd better start trying to be nice because I love him." Clark snapped his mouth shut at Chloe's tiny gasp, and backed away.
"You love... you can't," she squeaked.
"I do, Chloe," Clark whispered. He turned again and walked away, unable to bear the thought of his friends' censure.

Clark was starting to despair. It was nearly the end of the day and he still hadn't received a text from Lex. And he'd hoped... even if it was just a word... because it would be the first day missed in just over a month and that felt wrong. So very wrong. His parents were worried now, but Clark had finally brushed them off and was skulking in the loft, pacing desperately as he waited, hoped and prayed for a text.
When the phone beeped, it made him jump, but Clark grabbed it, pressing the button quickly to read the message.
'Thank you for your trust. You are unique, not a freak. I love you too, my angel'
The relief that rushed through him, made Clark collapse in a breathless, tearful heap. He wanted to go to Lex, but despite the message, Clark wasn't sure of his welcome. Until his phone beeped again.
'My heart yearns for your presence, my angel, why do you stay away?'
Clark was running to the castle almost before he'd finished reading. "Lex," he gasped, coming to a halt in the door of the office. His heart skipped a beat. Lex was leaning casually against the front of his desk, light sweater clinging to the line of every muscle, wool slacks pulled tight across the soft swell of his crotch and hard muscles of his thighs. But it was Lex's face that really caught Clark; open, light, happy... love visible in his eyes, tangible in his gaze. "Lex?" Clark questioned nervously.
"I've missed you," Lex laughed, "I've missed you in less than a day. I've loved you too long and too much to not forgive you now I finally have you." Lex straightened and strolled over to him in a manner that made Clark shiver and swallow hard.
Stumbling forward, Clark reached for Lex, his hands met and squeezed. "Missed you too," he breathed, "Oh Lex, I love you, really love you."
Lex drew him forward into a gentle embrace. "My angel," he whispered.
"Alien," Clark contradicted him.
"Alien? Yes. Freak? No. My angel? Always," Lex whispered, breath soft in his ear.
"Always?" Clark asked breathlessly.
"Yeah." Lex lifted his head and gently pressed his lips to Clark's mouth.
Clark sighed happily. Their first kiss, sealing the promise of always.
