Summary: Clark tells Lex his secret

This was really nice. A log fire, snow outside, snuggling with a loved one on Christmas Eve. Clark sighed happily and kissed Lex’s cheek. Lex grinned at him and stroked his hair.

“You have a thing for my hair, don’t you?” Clark asked quietly with a hint of tease.

“Oh, like you don’t have a thing for my head?” Lex snorted, still stroking.

“Well, yeah, I mean,” Clark looked up at Lex, and his smooth and, as Clark had very recently discovered, very soft scalp, “Definitely. But that’s good right?”

“Oh sure,” Lex replied with a nod, “After all, if you hadn’t decided to lick me out of the blue, I’d be spending a very lonely Christmas Eve.”

“Don’t say that,” Clark sighed, feeling bad, yet again, over Lex’s father and his attitude towards his son. “I’d have been here anyway. I never liked the thought of you being alone.”

Lex smiled softly and gently kissed his forehead. “Thank you, Clark.”

Clark smiled back. Now was time, while Lex was still feeling a little down, it was time to tell him everything.

“Lex?”

“Yeah?”

“I want to tell you something,” Clark said hesitantly. Lex stiffened just a little next to him and Clark had to wonder whether he was worried about Clark saying ‘I love you’ or whether he was anticipating learning his secret.

“Okay,” Lex finally said.

“It’s kind of a story. How I found out Santa Claus wasn’t real,” Clark started. He ignored the incredulous expression on Lex’s face. “See, when I was about seven, I’d only been with Mom and Dad for four years and Christmas was still really new and exciting and I loved the idea of Santa.”

Lex’s expression softened and he cuddled up to Clark.

“Anyway,” Clark continued, “This particular year, I decided I was determined to see Santa, so in the middle of the night, when I heard a noise, I got up.”

“Oh Clark,” Lex interrupted him, “Did you see your Dad?”

“Shh, Lex, no, I didn’t,” Clark huffed. Lex smiled ruefully and gestured for him to continue. “I snuck downstairs and to my horror, I saw Santa, all in red, with a big bushy beard, and he was kissing my Mom under the mistletoe.”

Lex snorted loudly.

“What?” Clark snapped, “I’m trying to tell you an important story here, Lex.”

“I’m sorry, it’s just… you saw Mommy kissing Santa Claus underneath the mistletoe?”

Clark nodded and stared uncertainly when Lex dissolved into a fit of giggles.

“Lex?”

“Sorry, sorry,” Lex wheezed, wiping at his eyes, “Have you never heard that song?”

“What song?” Clark asked in distress, what kind of a reaction was that?!

“Oh Clark I’m sorry, really, go on,” Lex seemed to get himself under control.

Sniffing a little, Clark pouted, but continued. “Well, I got really mad, because, you know, only Dad should kiss Mom, so I ran over and I hit him as hard as I could.”

“Oh man, did you get into trouble?” Lex asked in concern.

“No,” Clark shook his head, “We spent Christmas at the hospital that year because I put Dad through the kitchen door.”

“You…” Lex gaped, “You put your dad through a door?”

“Yeah,” Clark said in a tiny voice, “Lex?”

“Give me a second here, Clark, what are you trying to tell me in your own peculiar way?” Lex said quietly.

“Well, um, I’m not exactly from around here, Lex, Kansas, this planet… this solar system probably,” Clark admitted in a tense whisper.

“Oh,” Lex breathed. “Oh wow.” He sounded odd somehow.

“Lex?”

“Clark, are you serious, you’re not like joking are you?” Lex asked urgently.

“Of course I’m not joking, with all the crap that goes on around here, do you really think I’d joke about this?” Clark gasped disbelievingly.

“No, of course not, just making sure.” Lex still sounded strange, awed almost. “God, Clark, that’s so cool.”

“Cool?” Clark asked, “Really?”

“Yeah,” Lex sighed, “I haven’t had anything to wonder about, to believe in since… God I can’t even remember, Clark. You’re my own Santa.”

“Lex!” Clark laughed. He was so relieved at Lex’s reaction he didn’t even think to stop the next words, “I love you.”

Lex didn’t even tense or hesitate, “I love you too, Santa.”

end.
